Backing Away from the Edgelords

Stephen and Starr Discuss

This video is the first in what I hope will be a longer series of collaborative discussions between myself and Stephen Bradford Long, who writes over at Sacred Tension.

Stephen and I happen to live in the same area of southern Appalachia. We met for coffee a few weeks ago and found we had a lot in common—PRIMARILY CATS—and many topics to discuss.

In this first installment, Stephen and I each share a bit about our experience in edgelord communities. How did we find ourselves, respectively, in the Satanist and the Anarcho-Capitalist movements? What made us decide to leave? What values and fringe opinions do we still hold from our time in the edgiest of camps? How do those experiences inform and inspire our paths to this day?

My favorite quote from this discussion: “We’re all alone in this together, Stephen!”

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Love,
Starr of Appalachia
