Seek what and find your liberty?
Not voting. Not political action. Not persuading the masses. Discipline.
Why should we care about discipline? Are we not anarchists? Out-of-the-box thinkers who don't conform to social norms and are very wary of top-down enforced rules?
Discipline is the set of rules you give yourself out of responsible self-ownership. That’s one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that you don’t just decree these rules for yourself, you discover them. Proper self-discipline is unique to the individual. Your rules are not my rules.
When you look at it that way, discipline is about the most anarchist thing there is.
Think of discipline as your owner’s manual. Once you read and understand your manual (figure out your particular style of discipline), you’ll know how to maintain yourself for optimal results. It all depends on your aptitudes, desires, strengths, and weaknesses.
In a very real way, a failure to self-discipline results in self-abandonment, inviting deterioration, thievery, manipulation, and degradation of what is rightfully yours: your body, your mind, your purpose, your life.
Extrapolate this to a large, complex society and, well...you only have to take a look around to see how that turns out.
The good news is that lack of discipline doesn't mean you're lazy or worthless or unintelligent or incompetent. It just means you haven't figured out your owner's manual yet (and that you might be a little scared to try.)
I announced last week that I’m hosting my first-ever online workshop on Sunday, April 2nd. It’s called Freedom Through Discipline, and it’s gonna be lit.
If you’re:
A self-professed procrastinator
A little (or a lot) ADHD
Aware that you need to make some changes, but not sure where to start
Spending too much time doom-scrolling, arguing on Twitter, or binging Netflix
Constantly overwhelmed
Always starting awesome projects that never get finished
Always saying “I don’t know where the time goes”
Then this workshop will help you re-frame and course correct on your path to inner freedom.
During my 3-hour workshop on April 2nd, I’ll give you the tools I’ve learned in my long (and ongoing) quest for self-discipline.
You’ll learn the three foundational habits that will immediately start to transform your life (they’re different for everyone, but follow a similar pattern.)
You’ll find out why you talk yourself out of taking the steps you know you need to take to change your life for the better, and how to stop doing that.
We’ll also talk about the three biggest self-defeating habits that a lot of people don’t even realize they’re doing.
And I’ll pass on some crucial strategies for battling the inevitable resistance.
Plus, there will be memes.
I want us to be awesome, in all aspects of life and living. I know we can be. And I don’t want us to stop at mere awesomeness when there are ever higher states to which to aspire. And I’m committed to helping it happen, whatever way I can, using the talents and resources at my disposal.
Register HERE for the Freedom Through Discipline workshop!
P.S. I’m giving half of the proceeds from this event to my good friend Kevin Butler, beloved voluntaryist, memelord, and discipline enthusiast to help him in his recovery from an extended illness. Here’s the link to Kevin’s GoFundMe, so you can donate directly if you wish.
I’d like to support Kevin, and I usually send a check directly because Gofund takes a big cut. Who can I get in touch with to find out how to get a check to Kevin?
