The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
-John 1:5
Darkness, Lord, haunts me
in the form of worry
in the form of forgetfulness
in the form of grief.
Each darkness is a shadow
of its holy origin—
the substance beneath the void—
I distort Trust into worry,
Knowing into forgetfulness,
Love into grief.
I sometimes bathe in these shadows,
unconscious of the light I have misused
to cast them.
Help me today, Lord,
to locate the light in each person,
in each circumstance,
in each moment,
and in myself—
to transmute worry into Trust,
forgetfulness into Knowing,
grief into Love.
Amen.
Thank you for praying with me. It helps more than you know.
As you may have noticed, I have been absent from Substack for a few months. This has been for the purpose of committing my energies to the necessary work of helping my daughter, Raven, on her healing journey after her cancer diagnosis in December. We are still on that journey, but things are looking up and up and up, and the time and energy to write are returning to me, gradually. So here is a slow reentry into my writing work. I’ll try to bring you the Prayer of the Week, each week, and build from there. Thank you for your patience, and your prayers.
If you feel so inspired, you can support my work by becoming a paid subscriber to this Substack for $5/month or making a one-time contribution through the Buy Me a Coffee link below.
Previous Prayers of the Week:
Peaceful Morning
I give thanks for this peaceful morning: for the rising of the sun, for the beauty of this life, for the abundance of your provision.
My wife had cancer and went through treatment. I had recently learned about fenbendazole and tocotrienols, and now both of us take them as a prophylactic.

God bless and good luck.
Good to hear from you, Starr.
Family is first.
All the best my dear
