An arduous journey ends
with rest for tired bones.
The sublime pleasure
of merely coming home again—
a rich fulfillment—
that there should be a home to go to
and loved ones to receive me.
A joy to be savored,
that there should be chores to do
and seeds of new beginnings
awaiting the rain and light of heaven
to coax their sprouting…
what luxuriance, what delight, this life!
I give thanks for the arduous journey,
thanks for the tiredness in my bones.
I give thanks for the sorrow,
thanks for hope,
thanks for the deliverance.
I give thanks for reaching a desired end
and thanks for coming so close to not reaching it
and thanks for the fact
that even if the desired end had not been reached,
your will would still be done.
Most of all, I give thanks
for the wisdom of knowing
that life and love are worth all risks.
Thank you for everything.
I have no complaints whatsoever.
Amen.
