Lord, let me not wait
for trumpets to declare you
or look for you
on a cloud
or seated on a throne.
You are already here,
closer than my own thoughts,
realer than this body.
I see you in the sunrise,
in laughter and tears,
in the beauty of all things,
and shining through
the eyes of those I meet.
I hear you in the rain,
in the crinkle of dead leaves,
in the guidance you give:
Go here, do this, love it all.
How could I not sense you
in the love of these least—
in her gentle giving,
in his strong determination?
In the person you send
to answer another’s prayer,
in the everyday miracles
that form the threads
in the fabric of existence,
the greatest miracle of all.
Do not let me forget, Lord,
in appearances of trouble
that there is nothing greater
to see
to hear
to share
than Good News,
already here,
already now.
Amen.

Yes. Little birds flying high in a circle overhead as I offered tobacco this morning. Grateful for our shared existence in creation.
